Lead developer

Amsterdam, Nederland

Job Type

Fulltime

About the Role

We offer the position of Lead Engineer (primus inter pares) to help lead our product development team for our next phase. The ideal candidate is eager, confident and communicative with an eye for business and quality.

You have demonstrable experience in a similar environment and are able to connect with not only team based, but also the organization at large. Based on your experience in a range of technologies, domains and organizations, you are able to bring together best practices and apply them to our domain, platform and product. Since we are a regulated medical device, you understand the importance of demonstrable quality in process, quality and documentation.

For this role, we seek you to build a dependable, high quality and predictable delivery organization that supports us in our growth ambitions. You will work closely with the management team (CTO/CPO) - as well as the broader organization (e.g. data science team) to streamline product delivery to our customers. This includes setting the way we work, focusing on quality and delivery flow, building & growing the team. You’ll be a respectable and valued counterpart to the business and product owners through the knowledge and pragmatism you bring. Given where we stand as a business, we’d expect you (still) love getting your hands on the code and platform while you work with your team. You’ll head up the development team’s daily and other regular rituals (e.g. sprint planning).

In our team, we highly value transparency, a growth mindset, and the courage to challenge assumptions with an out-of-the-box thinking approach. A founder's mentality and a strong sense of ownership over projects, team, tech stack and deliverables are essential. If you're an energetic collaborator, able to zoom into the details and back out to the big picture, we’d be happy for you to apply.

Finally, we don’t give out the term ‘lead’ lightly - we invest in relationships we build with our customers and our team members - that also holds for this role. We’d love for you to be with us in the coming years and enjoy success together.

We believe in building an organization focused around our customers and we believe success is forged by bringing together the various disciplines within Neurocast through mutual understanding. As such, we expect the majority of the work for this role to be performed in our Neurocast office.

We are committed to make this next step a success.

7+ years of professional work experience and a MSc in Software Engineering or equivalent. Furthermore:

  • You have a leader’s profile and experience in building demonstrably strong engineering teams (process, people, systems), balancing business sense, speed and quality

  • You are a bridge-builder: you speak both the language of the business and are a respected peer for your engineers

  • Familiarity with a number of the following technologies/frameworks: Amazon Web Services (AWS), JIRA, Golang, React, Python, mobile development (Android/iOS), testing and test automation

  • Experience building data infrastructures

  • You have a coaching mentality and corresponding behavior

  • Living in Amsterdam or willing to relocate

About the Company

About you

  • You are able to translate business problems and requirements into clear, pragmatic technical or process steps, both for yourself and the team, adopting and advocating a ‘design for tomorrow, implement for today’ mindset.

  • You find the simplest solution to solve complex problems (programmatically or otherwise) and you have a constructively challenging attitude with a drive to simplify and accelerate.

  • You drive and participate in all phases of the product development, i.e. (working with product management on) problem formulation and specification, translation with the team into workable deliverables, testing, delivery and operations.

  • You like working in a team, building best practices and leading by example.

  • You keep in mind data structures, memory footprint and performance when coding.

  • You plan and think first, and only then code, bringing the ‘smarts’ from past experience.

  • You can articulate your choices and own your decisions.

  • You can communicate your work clearly to non-technical teams in the company.
